About Augusto
With 15 wins in the WTCC and two third place finishes in the drivers’ championship, Augusto’s maiden season with Hyundai Motorsport in the WTCR promises to be one-to-watch. The passion for racing caught Augusto at a very young age. At only 6 years old, he began riding mini-motorcycles in his hometown of Curitiba, quickly establishing his talent and earning himself the moniker ‘Magic Motorcycle Boy’. He progressed to karting in 1992, and by the end of his first season had clinched the Paranaense Championship. After sealing numerous national titles, Augusto caught the eye of Italian team, CRG, and in 1999 he moved to Europe to compete as one of their official drivers. This led to progression into a successful single-seater racing, in which Augusto was crowned European Formula Renault champion in 2001 and European Formula 3000 champion in 2003. Augusto began his touring car career in the European Touring Car Championship (ETCC) before going on to contest in the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM) and the World Touring Car Championship (WTCC).
