About Teemu
Following success in WRC2 and WRC3, Teemu Suninen joined our Hyundai Motorsport Driver development Programme (HMDP) in June 2023 and embarked on a WRC program in our i20 N Rally1 Hybrid. Teemu made his mark on the rally community in 2014 after winning the WRC3 class on debut at home in Rally Finland.
He joined our team in 2021, when he first stepped into the i20 N Rally2 at Rally de España. Teemu went on to deputise for Ott Tänak in the i20 WRC Coupe at the season finale in Monza. The talented Finn has been instrumental to the development of our Rally2 challenger, helping to improve its competitiveness on all terrain. Class victory in WRC2 at Rally de España in 2022 underscored this, and the Finn continued to impress as he undertook a second campaign with our team. Now part of the HMDP, Teemu will contest select events in the second half of the WRC season in our Rally1 challenger alongside long-term co-driver Mikko Markkula.
The HMDP aims to provide drivers with dedicated resources to become the next generation of Rally1 candidates, with Teemu the first to progress to the pinnacle of the sport.
