KMSA Motorsport N drivers win all three race at Motegi
KMSA Motorsport N driver Jeong Weon Choi and Masanobu Kato dominated the opening weekend of the TCR Japan season at Motegi (August 9-11), sharing the event’s three wins between them.
Japanese driver Kato scored his first win for the team in Race 1 on Saturday, with a lights-to-flag win. However, Choi was forced to retire in the early laps with a technical issue. The South Korean was able to rebound on the two races held on Sunday, though on both occasions he was beaten off the line by his team-mate from an all-Elantra N TCR front row.
In Race 2 Choi was able to hang on around the outside of Kato, the pair going side by side before Choi completed a pass for the lead and held the position for the rest of the race. A mistake at turn 1 in Race 3, temporarily dropped Choi to third. He was able to regain the lost ground to move back into the lead to complete an excellent weekend for the team.
Driving an i30 N TCR, Kin Sung Hyun completed the Race 1 podium in Choi’s absence, before finishing fourth – and last – in a thin field in Race 2. A technical issue kept the South Korean from taking his spot on the grid for the weekend finale.
