Returning to Europe, the season takes a sharp turn with Tour de Corse, the first tarmac rally of the year. Famed for tight, twisty and energy-sapping stages, its affectionate description as the ‘Rally of 10.000 corners’ is more than justified.
France’s round of the WRC was held on the island of Corsica from 1973 to 2008. Moving to the Alsace region of the country in 2010, the event moved back to Corsica in 2015 where it has remained ever since.
Long, technical tarmac stages place an emphasis on creation and delivery of precise pace notes. There’s no opportunity to take in the stunning scenery with steep drops, narrow village roads and relentless twists and turns requiring a focused approach by driver and co-driver.
