Nicky Catsburg returns to WTCR grid
BRC Racing Team will field three of our Elantra N TCR cars for the final two rounds of the WTCR 2022 season, with our FIA ETCR driver Nicky making his return to the series.
After some excellent results on European circuits, BRC Racing Team is currently leading both the teams’ and drivers’ standings. Our WTCR customer team is 37 points clear in the teams’ competition, despite being outnumbered by rival manufacturers on track.
Entered under the BRC Hyundai N Racing Team banner, the addition of a third car to the line-up will support the team’s push for both crowns amongst strong challenges from competitors.
A warm welcome back
On his return to the WTCR paddock, Nicky said: “I’m really looking forward to being back in FIA WTCR. I know the series and the team from previous years, and I’ve enjoyed racing and working with them.”
Nicky made his WTCR debut in our i30 N TCR, also run by BRC Racing Team, in 2019. He competed in the same model for two weekends in 2020, where he scored a victory in Race 3 at Race of Slovakia.
In 2022, Nicky has been impressing with his pace in the Veloster N ETCR. He has taken four FIA ETCR race victories, including a Semi Final win on his debut appearance at Race SP in Jarama.
A brand-new challenge
The two WTCR weekends in the Middle East will be Nicky’s first taste of the Elantra N TCR, and his first competitive visit to either circuit. However, his strong versatility and wide-ranging career in both GT and Touring Car racing will mean he is in a strong position to support Mikel and Norbert in the races.
“I’m very proud to be the driver called upon to come in for the crucial part of the season to support both Mikel and the team in their battle for the titles. The Elantra N TCR is a brand-new car to me, but I am confident that I can be on the pace quickly and help the team end the season on a high,” concluded Nicky.
The next race of the 2022 WTCR season, Race of Bahrain, takes place on November 10-12.
