Different line-up, same success

The driving line-ups for the 2025 Nürburgring 24 Hours were changed, but the results remained the same, as the race ended with a fifth consecutive TCR class win for the Elantra N TCR.

Victory went to the trio of Marc Basseng, Christer Jöns, and Manuel Lauck in a race run in dry conditions and high temperatures that provided a very different test compared to the wet conditions so often found at the Nürburgring. They completed 130 laps in the victory, three more than the Bryan Herta Autosport line-up that secured the second half of the 1–2 finish for Hyundai Motorsport.

The North American line-up featured Canadian Robert Wickens, the former DTM driver making his Nürburgring 24 Hours debut in a car specially modified with a hand control system to allow him to join co-drivers Mason Filippi, Bryson Morris, and Mark Wilkins.

Expanding family

Hyundai Motorsport brought the largest team yet to the Nürburgring 24 Hours in 2024, with three Elantra N TCRs chasing a fourth consecutive class win.

The familiar line-up of Azcona, Basseng, and Lauck were joined by a new-look crew from Bryan Herta Autosport – Bryson Morris and Mark Wilkins joining Filippi and Gottsacker – and a crew of Martin Cao, Rainey He, Andy Yan, and Zhang Zhen Dong, drawn from Hyundai Motorsport customers in the highly competitive TCR China series.

The race was curtailed by heavy fog and ended behind the Safety Car. However, the team achieved a historic 1–2–3, with the Bryan Herta Autosport drivers combining to take a surprise win, giving Hyundai victory for the fourth consecutive year.

Third success in a row

Defending champions Mikel Azcona, Marc Basseng, and Manuel Lauck were joined in the Hyundai Motorsport efforts by a second Elantra N TCR shared by four drivers from our US-based customer team, Bryan Herta Autosport.

The line-up of Mason Filippi, Harry Gottsacker, Taylor Hagler, and Michael Lewis finished an excellent second in class, just a lap behind Azcona, Basseng, and Lauck as they collected a second class win together, and the third consecutive success for Hyundai Motorsport on the Nordschleife.

Leading in the 50th edition

The 50th edition of the Nürburgring 24 Hours started with a penalty in qualifying for the Elantra N TCR, but ended with the line-up of Mikel Azcona, Marc Basseng, and Manuel Lauck claiming Hyundai Motorsport's best overall finish to date.

The team were forced to start from last in their class, but the recovery was complete after a little more than a quarter of the race when Lauck put the car into the class lead for the first time.

For several hours into early Sunday morning, the two Hyundai cars – Elantra N TCR and i30 N TCR – swapped the lead of the race, maintaining an excellent pace.

The pair finished 1–2 in class, with the Elantra N TCR line-up coming home a sensational 18th overall.

Racing in the fog

The Elantra N TCR made its memorable debut at the Nürburgring 24 Hours in 2021, giving Hyundai Motorsport its first class victory in the race.

In another fog-affected edition of the race, the i30 N TCR also showed its strength – Luca Engstler, Hendrik Still, and Jean-Karl Vernay finishing second behind the Elantra N TCR driver line-up of Marc Basseng, Manuel Lauck, and Moritz Oestreich in a first 1–2 finish for Hyundai Motorsport.

2020

Challenging conditions

The global disruption of the COVID-19 pandemic pushed the 2020 Nürburgring 24 Hours back to a date in September, bringing the autumn weather into play at the already challenging event.

A combination of rain and fog caused a nine-hour red flag period during the night, limiting the time available to both the Veloster N TCR and i30 N TCR driver line-ups to recover from minor technical problems.

Despite the difficulties, the Hyundai Motorsport N team again stood on the TCR class podium – the four-man line-up in the Veloster N TCR ending in second place.

Veloster N TCR joins the i30 N TCR

The 2019 campaign saw a two-car entry for both the six-hour Nürburgring 24 Hours Qualifying Race and the Nürburgring 24 Hours. The familiar i30 N TCR was joined by a Veloster N TCR – the second TCR design produced by Hyundai Motorsport Customer Racing for the TCR regulations.

Both cars were fitted with special modifications for endurance racing – an ABS system and a refuelling kit to enable fast refuelling in the pitlane – alongside the two-litre turbocharged engine and six-speed sequential gearbox standard to all Hyundai TCR cars.

The Veloster N TCR finished second in the TCR class, 44th overall, while the i30 N TCR completed the race after a heroic rebuild by the team following a crash in the first half.

Debut in the "Green Hell"

The Hyundai i30 N TCR and Hyundai Motorsport made their debut at the Nürburgring 24 Hours in 2018 as part of the car's first full year of competition.

The Hyundai Motorsport N team were immediately at the head of the TCR class. The squad achieved a 1–2 in qualifying, with Peter Terting setting a new TCR lap record for the event.

The race ended with a podium finish – the two cars coming home second and fourth in the TCR class.
