i20 R5 claims Slovenian rally crown

Perfect season for Hyundai Slovenia crew

Perfect season for Hyundai Slovenia crew

Our i20 R5 customers are celebrating a hat-trick of titles after claiming a third Slovenian national rally crown in dominant fashion.

Rok Turk and co-driver Viljem Ošlaj won all six rounds of the domestic championship – including four outright wins at Rally Vipavska dolina, Rally Železniki, Rally Poreč and the season final Rally Idrija – and had done enough to secure the title by the penultimate round of the year.

“It is safe to say that Rok and the i20 R5 have been dominant again in the Slovenian Rally Championship,” said our Customer Racing Manager, Andrew Johns. “Over the course of the season he was clearly the driver to beat. The combination of him, Friulmotor and Hyundai Slovenia have proven to be hugely strong and successful, and this season has again shown this.”

First in class
Turk and Ošlaj finished second overall in the remaining two events, but with entrants competing for a number of different series, they claimed maximum points for the national title as the first finishers for the Slovenian Rally Championship.

The Slovenina crew’s performance advantage over its rivals is underscored by some impressive statistics from the season. Out of 56 competitive stages, Turk and Oslaj were fastest on 38. They only failed to be the quickest Slovenian championship runner on three occasions – two of which they were struggling with a minor gearbox issue at Rally Nova Gorcia.

The championship victory marks a third successful year of collaboration between Turk, Italy-based team Friulmotor and Hyundai Slovenia, during which our i20 R5 has displayed its excellent performance and reliability. Since he became one of our customers in 2019, Turk has collected 10 overall wins and 13 national championship victories in over 15 starts in the series.

“Only with the right mix of a strong crew, team and a quick and reliable car is it possible to achieve the startling statistics he has this season,” concluded Andrew. “Securing the title with a round to spare was an extra exclamation point on his season before continuing his relentless record on the final round at Rally Idrija.”
