Team Hyundai Portugal crews aim to extend podium run
After podium finishes in the first two rounds of the Portuguese Rally Championship, Dani Sordo leads Team Hyundai Portugal to Rali Terras d’Aboboreira for the third event of the year.
Sordo has shown great pace to start his first season with the Hyundai Portugal-supported squad, finishing second in both events so far and winning the Power Stage at each round. For overall honours this weekend he faces not only his now-familiar rivals for national honours, but a handful of international crews running for European Rally Trophy honours or using the event as preparations of Portugal’s round of the World Rally Championship.
The Spaniard will be without normal co-driver Cándido Carrera, with Patricia Sáiz calling the pacenotes in his place.
The two-car Team Hyundai Portugal line-up is completed by the crew of Gonçalo Henriques and Inês Veiga. The pair made a sensational debut with the team and the i20 N Rally2 at the previous round, joining Sordo and Carrera on the overall podium, in third. Once again on gravel, they will be aiming to repeat – or even better – the achievement.
Irish crew chase podium reward for promising pace
After costly non-finishes in the first two rounds of the Irish Tarmac Rally Championship, the i20 N Rally2 crew of Matt Edwards and David Moynihan need a strong finish at this weekend’s International Rally of the Lakes to kick-start their season.
The pair, in their first year as Hyundai Motorsport customers with the C&M Motorsport team, have shown promise in the stage times. They have set multiple top times on both of the rallies run in the series this year and been in position to challenge for a podium before misfortune struck.
If they can maintain the same strong performance but avoid the mistakes and technical problems that have cut their previous weekends short, then the pair should be in position for a much-deserved positive result.
