Hyundai España-supported crew show strong pace on gravel event
Pepe López and David Vásquez finished third on Rallye Tierras Altas de Lorca (March 21-22), the driver’s first start in an i20 N Rally2 since the same event last year.
The Hyundai España-backed crew held a podium place throughout the gravel event, which began the Spanish Superchampionship season. Even more promising was the four stage wins they took from their eight competitive tests of the event. However, the duo lost time on SS6, effectively ending their chances of victory.
Though they won all three of the remaining stages and cut their deficit to the second placed crew in half from nearly a minute, they remained in third at the end of the rally.
Joan Vinyes and Jordi Mercader started their own season off in sixth, with Lithuanian pairing Rokas Steponavičus and Dovydas Ketvirtis placing a third i20 N Rally2 in the top ten, as they finished eighth in their first event with the car.
