Daniel Juncadella was already a familiar name in endurance racing paddocks when he joined the IDEC Sport team for the 2025 European Le Mans Series. However, it was the experienced endurance racer’s first full season campaign in Prototype machinery.
Juncadella has a long list of starts and successes in some of the most iconic motorsport events in the world. He won the Macau Grand Prix in 2011, has twice stood on the overall podium at the Nürburgring 24 Hours, is a winner at the 24 Hours of Daytona and the 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps, and is a regular front-runner in the GT classes of the FIA World Endurance Championship.
He easily brought over that high level of performance to the ELMS, putting his experience to excellent use to play a crucial part in the team’s victories at Barcelona and Le Castellet.
Q&A with Daniel
What has been your favourite ELMS race so far and why?
Barcelona! It’s my home race. It was the first LMP2 race and it ended with a win. So, of course, I would pick this race.
What do you do to focus before a race?
I normally like to do a little bit of a warm-up for the body, but nothing too extreme. Sometimes I like to go through some videos from the previous sessions, especially before qualifying. I am a very relaxed person so, I don't have a specific routine to get into the right mood before jumping in the car.
As it’s your first year in LMP2, what has been the most valuable lesson you have learnt this year?
I think it's been great having to adapt to a completely different car. I've been racing many years in GT and now I am driving a prototype. The first few months have been a learning experience. I really enjoy it and I think the car is a lot of fun.
Which profession would you have chosen if you hadn’t become a racing driver?
Golf player for sure! It’s one of my greatest passion and if I hadn’t had any talent for racing, I would have enjoyed playing golf or any other sport.
Who is your motorsport idol?
I would say Fernando Alonso because I started racing because of him. my family is familiar with motorsport, but it was only when he joined Formula 1 that I realized “Wow, there's a Spanish guy that can do it”, I want to be like him!
What’s your secret to success?
I would say I'm a very analytical person and I am also a little bit of an introvert. These traits help me analyzing myself and finding the things that I can control. So, I work on improving those little bits instead of looking elsewhere. I think that's the key!
