Hungarian touring car driver Norbert Michelisz, affectionately known as Norbi, has been with BRC Hyundai N Squadra Corse from the i30 N TCR’s first full season of competition.

Since his debut with the team in 2018, he has gone on to claim three championship titles: one in FIA WTCR (2019) and two in the TCR World Tour (2023, 2024).

Norbi spent his early years surrounded by all-things engines, thanks to his mechanic and part-time rally driver uncle. Before starting his on-track career, Norbi won a sim racing competition that helped propel him onto the real-life tarmac. A test at the Hungaroring led to his participation in local series and eventually a step up to the World Touring Car Championship in 2008.

Norbi had ten successful seasons under his belt when he joined Hyundai N Squadra Corse in 2018, and in his time with the team he has claimed 33 podiums and 14 wins alongside his three championship crowns.

Q&A with Norbi

What is your favorite TCR WT race and why?

My favourite race is Macao, just for the nature of the circuit. It’s probably the most difficult track I have ever competed in. It is also the place where I won my first WTCC race in 2010. And, where I won the championship titles in 2024 and 2023. It’s a very special place for me!

What do you do to focus before a race?

Before the race I have a warm-up routine. Usually, I don’t like so much the hour before you get in the car ready for qualifying. So, I prefer to stay alone, listen to music, do a little bit of stretching and warm-up. This helps me to get in the zone.

Which profession would you have chosen if you hadn’t become a racing driver?

Something related to IT or finance. I have a degree in IT & economics.

 Who is your motorsport idol?

When I started watching Formula 1 in the '90s, Michael Schumacher wasn't my favourite. But, after he went back to Mercedes this changed. I admire his character and dedication.

What’s your secret to success?

To be honest, I matured a lot. I learnt to focus on things which I can control. And I also learnt not to stress about those that I cannot.
