Q&A with Jamie
What has been your favourite ELMS race so far and why?
My favorite round so far was Le Castellet. The conditions were tricky and it was the home race for the IDEC Sport team, and also the place where we achieved our first outright victory.
What do you do to focus before a race?
I feel that with experience, I get more used to it. I just try to prepare as best as I can. The better prepared I am, the more relaxed I am. The more relaxed I am, the better I drive. I try to prepare as much before so that when it gets to just before the stint, I feel ready and unfazed by the task.
Besides focusing as much as possible, I try to make sure I am well and hydrated. Le Mans is a bit different due to the night stints: waking up and making sure I was on all four cylinders when I woke up. But for ELMS, I just try to prepare as much as possible.
What is the most valuable lesson you learnt this year with the Genesis Magma Racing Trajectory Programme?
So much, I think it's hard to pinpoint one thing. I think mainly adapting to this style of racing, The level is incredibly high. So, adapting to this style of racing and this car has been very valuable.
Which profession would you have chosen if you hadn’t become a racing driver?
I always say I'd like to be in another sport. I don’t know whether I would have been good enough to be an athlete in another sport, but definitely something in this field. I love playing different sports and I also like watching them all.
Who is your motorsport idol?
I always say Lewis Hamilton because of what he does on track and off track too. Growing up, he was always the one winning. So, he’s an inspiration.
What’s your secret to success?
The secret to success is to prepare well. Be resilient, be disciplined and work hard.
