Customer team claims second consecutive title
Janík Motorsport and its driver Maťo Homola finished the 2023 TCR Eastern Europe season in typically successful style at the season finale in Brno, with a podium for the Slovakian in Race 1 and one for his team-mate in Race 2 helping the squad clinch the teams’ title.
Maťo had already confirmed himself as drivers’ champion after the penultimate round at Most, making it a double-title season for the Czech team.
“The performance of Maťo and the whole Janík Motorsport team in TCR Eastern Europe this season has been very impressive,” said Andrea, our Customer Racing Manager. “Excellent consistency has given them the teams’ title for the second consecutive year.”
Full team effort
Maťo, who previously competed with the team and car in TCR Europe, was joined in the garage for the season by two new names to both Janík Motorsport and the Elantra N TCR; Adam Kout and Carlo Czepiel completed the team’s line-up for the 2023 campaign. However, despite their different levels of experience, all three were immediately on the pace and delivered strong results throughout the year.
Each driver claimed at least one victory from the championship’s 12 rounds, and collectively they secured a total of six top-step finishes and 13 podiums. Two of those wins were delivered by Maťo at the Slovakia Ring, his home event. The dominant display all but sealed the drivers’ title with a few races to spare, while also putting Janík Motorsport in a strong position in the teams’ standings. Contributions from all drivers at the Czech rounds of Most and Brno were enough to bring home the teams’ trophy.
“It feels awesome to win a TCR Eastern Europe title with Janik Motorsport team in a Hyundai Elantra N TCR,” said an elated Maťo. “A double victory at my home race at Slovakia Ring in front of full grandstands was something special. It was a great season!”
“I am very happy that we managed to defend the title in the team classification, together with Maťo drivers’ title and get the maximum that could be achieved in the TCR Eastern Europe season this year,” added Janík Motorsport Team Owner Václav Janík.
Janík Motorsport finished 40 points ahead of its closest rival in the teams’ standings, while Maťo was 56 points clear of the next competitor in the final drivers’ classification.
