Fabrizio claims second title of the year
Our Customer Racing Junior Driver Fabrizio secured his second 2023 title this past weekend, clinching the Paraguayan national rally championship to add to the FIA CODASUR Rally Championship crown he claimed in October.
“Fabrizio’s season in South America has been remarkable,” noted Andrea, our Customer Racing Manager. “Winning the FIA CODASUR Rally Championship was already a huge success for him with the i20 N Rally2, and the national championship in Paraguay is just as competitive.”
A visit to the podium at the final rally was enough for the Paraguayan to defend his championship lead, having started the last round with a ten-point advantage.
Class of the field
Fabrizio had a tough start to his campaign, retiring from the season opener – Rally San Pedro. However, this proved to be his only non-finish of the year. He then went on to score the first of his two victories at Rally Trans Itapúa, winning the opening four stages of the event alongside co-driver Marcelo. Despite briefly losing the lead, the crew was able to retake the top spot on day two and bring home first place.
The second success came at Rally de Guiará in September. A fast start for our Customer Racing duo gave them an early advantage in our i20 N Rally2. Having found their rhythm, they dominated the remainder of the event, never relinquishing the lead.
A third-place finish at the season finale was Fabrizio’s fourth podium of the year and was enough to secure the 22-year-old his national crown.
“I am very happy to have achieved the first South American and National Championship for Hyundai Paraguay,” beamed Fabrizio. “Since we received the first Hyundai i20 N Rally2 in the country, we set our goal for it to prevail at the local and regional level. After two seasons, we achieved it, and we are very happy. We have worked a lot on development and set-up which shows in having a competitive car in both championships all season.”
