Hyundai Motorsport strengthens senior management with new appointments
Hyundai Motorsport has strengthened its senior management with the appointment of two experienced professionals in newly created roles. Sébastien Metz will become the company's Operations Director, while Massimo Carriero will take up the position of Head of Engineering.
Metz and Carriero will officially join Hyundai Motorsport from January 1, 2026. From Hyundai Motorsport’s newly opened Technical Centre in Fechenheim, Germany, they will assume responsibility for overseeing all Hyundai Motorsport projects, including the FIA World Rally Championship effort and the Genesis Magma Racing FIA World Endurance Championship team. As Hyundai Motorsport continues to grow, the two men will also be part of any new projects which the company takes on in the coming seasons.
Fittingly, given the wide scope of their new roles, both Metz and Carriero bring experience from previous motorsport positions covering rallying, endurance racing and GT competition.
Metz, who will oversee all Hyundai Motorsport operations and facilities, was most recently in LMDh and GT3 programmes as Motorsport Business Director with Multimatic. The Frenchman also has experience with several teams in different roles in the FIA WEC paddock. His career has included time within manufacturer and customer teams in both circuit racing and rallying. Reporting directly to Hyundai Motorsport President Cyril Abiteboul, he will be responsible for both day-to-day operations and strategic planning.
The arrival of Italian Carriero adds to Hyundai Motorsport’s technical team. He was previously the Principal Test and Development Engineer for McLaren Motorsport’s GT3 programmes. He has also held senior technical roles at M-Sport in the company’s rally and GT projects, following an early career that spanned touring cars, rallying and prototypes. Working with Hyundai Motorsport Technical Director, FX Demaison, Carriero will manage the work of the engineering group, developing Hyundai Motorsport’s in-house engineering capabilities.
Hyundai Motorsport President Cyril Abiteboul said:
The appointments of Sébastien and Massimo to new roles at Hyundai Motorsport are a key step in the future of our business. They come to Hyundai Motorsport with valuable experience that spans multiple motorsport disciplines, including rallying and endurance racing where our focus currently lies. Adding the positions of Operations Director and Head of Engineering to our team structure, as well the recent appointment of Andrew Wheatley as Sporting Director for our WRC team, strengthens the team for the future and will mean that each person can focus more closely on their responsibilities, allowing us to work more efficiently across all our programmes.
Sébastien Metz said: “I am truly honoured to be joining Hyundai Motorsport. It is a great source of pride to have my experience and professionalism recognized by a manufacturer of such stature. I am excited to support Cyril Abiteboul in shaping the overall motorsport strategy, while working closely with FX Demaison to optimize our tools and strengthen the existing structure. My goal is to make the team more robust, high-performing, and autonomous, while contributing to the development of Hyundai’s projects and the sporting deployment of Genesis.”
Massimo Carriero said: “Sharing my time with Cyril, FX, and Hyundai Motorsport is a valuable opportunity to contribute to ongoing motorsport projects and be part of a solid, forward-looking group. I greatly value the leadership of Cyril and FX, and the dedication and talent of everyone involved, whose collective expertise forms the foundation for future improvements. My goal is to further strengthen this dynamic by bringing my own experience and commitment to the group.”
