FIA ERC title fight reaches vital point at penultimate round

Hayden Paddon and John Kennard could clinch their second consecutive FIA European Rally Championship title at Rali Ceredigion this weekend. The BRC Racing Team-run duo hold a 14-point advantage going into the penultimate round of the championship, though they are only seven ahead once dropped scores are considered. The Kiwis, therefore, need a strong result to secure the title, including out scoring their closest rivals by 22 points – the difference between rally victors and tenth place. However, Paddon comes into the event as one of the few ERC front-runners with experience of the event. He is a past winner on the Welsh tarmac stages, having taken victory on the rally with an i20 R5 when it was part of the TER Series. Also a past winner, specifically in the British Rally Championship last season, is James Williams. He won last year on his first start with the i20 N Rally2, but now arrives at his home rally in the middle of a full season with the car.

i20 N Rally2 crew aim to continue podium run after summer break

i20 N Rally2 driver Laurent Pellier will aim to continue his podium streak in the French Gravel Rally Championship at Rallye Terre de Lozère. Alongside co-driver Kévin Bronner, Pellier finished third, second and second in the first three events of the season to establish himself in second place in the points’ standings. Now, after a summer break of more than three months the national gravel season restarts again at the event based in Mende, around 100km north of the city of Montpellier, comprised of ten stages. Though his consistent start to season has left him relatively secure in second, a retirement could still have major consequences for Pellier in the championship. However, likewise, a slip by the championship leader could present Pellier an opportunity for not only an overall victory, but to close the gap at the head of the standings. Away from Pellier, Bronner and the fight for the major championship positions, Tony Ribaudo and Frederic Pradayrol will each drive an i20 R5 on the rally, with co-drivers Cyrielle Delorme and Nöélise Beaulieu respectively.
