Quartet of i20 N Rally2 crews begin Spanish Superchampionship season
The Spanish Superchampionship season begins on the gravel stages of Rallye Tierras Altas de Lorca, the start date for the event pushed back a few weeks by heavy rain in the area.
Four i20 N Rally2 crews start the yead, led by the Hyundai Motor España- supported pairing of Pepe López and David Vázquez in their first start in the car since the same rally last year.
They will be joined on the stages by the Andorran driver Joan Vinyes, starting his third season at the wheel of an i20 N Rally2 in the main national series with co-driver Jordi Mercader. For Lithuanian pairing Rokas Steponavičius and Dovydas Ketvirtis the rally will be their first start with the i20 N Rally2 and just their second-ever event in the championship after contesting a single round last season.
The combination of Gustavo Sosa and Alba Sanchez complete the Hyundai Motorsport customer line-up for the event.
Andolfi leads Hyundai Motorsport customers at start of Italian Rally campaign
The 2025 Italian Rally Championship begins at the Rally Il Ciocco e Valle del Serchio, with four i20 N Rally2 crews on the entry list. The highest profile of the driving quartet is Fabio Andolfi. He has become a regular front-runner in the championship, with a best finish of second in the standings in 2023. He begins this season with Swiss co-driver Marco Menchini in an i20 N Rally2 prepared by the Friulmotor team. The pair have had mixed fortunes in the two events they have started so far this season, winning the Ronde della Val Merula in February, by retiring from the first event of the Italian Gravel Rally Championship season.
Finnish crew Benjamin Korhola and Kristian Temonen were similarly forced out of the gravel rally, but showed strong pace on the rally, leading going into the final stage. They will aim to show the same pace on tarmac in the G.B. Motors-run, Pacco Motorsport-backed i20 N Rally2.
The four crews are completed by Liberato Suplizio, sharing the car with long-time co-driver Alessio Angeli, and Rudy Michelini with co-driver Michele Perna.
12 stages, split evenly between Saturday and Sunday, make-up the rally, which starts with a 2.23km test that doubles as the event’s Power Stage, promising a fast start to the new season.
