Teenager starts Turkish season finale with championship lead
Teenager Kerem Kazaz can complete a remarkable season in the Turkish Rally Championship by lifting the title at the Istanbul Rallisi. Kazaz starts the season finale at the top of the points’ standings, meaning he only need to match his previous results since switching to the i20 N Rally2 in the series he will emerge as national champion. Kazaz and his French co-driver Corentin Silvestre have finished second on both events with their new car – narrowly missing out on victory in the last two rounds with their Parkur Racing entry car. A third consecutive runner-up finish this weekend – with maximum points on the Power Stage if their rivals take victory – would clinch the title for the pair. Of course, a second win of the season – their first with the i20 N Rally2 – would provide the perfect end to the season and secure the title beyond doubt.
i20 N Rally2 crews target second FIA CEZ win of 2024
Two i20 N Rally2 crews lead the entry list for Rally Poreč – a round of both the national rally championship in Croatia and the FIA Central European Zone rally championship. Both Hungarian driver Antal Kovács and Slovenian Rok Turk are already winners in the FIA series this year – Kovács at September’s Rally Kumrovec and Turk when the campaign visited his home country for Rally Železniki. A victory for either driver would make them only the second two-time winner in the championship this year, vault them up the standings and put them within reach of the title ahead of the final round, when the series returns to Slovenia for Rally Idrija. 15-year-old Matteo Bernini will also be on the stages in Croatia this weekend, sharing an i20 R5 with co-driver Paolo Zanini. On his debut with the car at Rally Kumrovec he took an incredible result among a much more experienced field – finishing third in the national championship event.
Zaldivar chases victory at final round of Paraguayan championship
Fabrizio Zaldivar and Marcelo Der Ohannesian’s season in the Paraguayan Rally Championship comes to a close at the Rally de Caaguazú. Though they lead the FIA CODASUR championship that spans South America, their results in the domestic series this year leave them with only a slim chance of retaining the title they captured last year. The Automotor Rally Team-run i20 N Rally2 crew need a perfect weekend on the event – while also relying on major issues for their rivals – if they are to snatch a second national championship. If they were to accomplish this it would be their first victory of the season in Paraguay, having already claimed two podium finishes during their season in Zaldivar’s native country. Fabrizio’s father – Miguel Zaldivar Snr – pilots a second i20 N Rally2 on the entry list for the weekend.
