Meeke and Loudon aim to bounce back in Portuguese title chase
Team Hyundai Portugal pairing Kris Meeke and Stuart Loudon need a return to winning ways at Rali da Água to get their Portuguese Rally Championship title challenge back on track. Meeke’s year in the i20 N Rally2 got off to a blistering start, with victory in the first four events. However, finishes outside the top five in the championship at the two most recent events have let his lead slip and leave him in second place entering this weekend – the penultimate round of the season. He starts the tarmac event just seven points in arrears – a gap easily overcome by another strong weekend. Meeke and Loudon are joined on the stages by their Hyundai Portugal-supported team-mates Ricardo Teodósio and José Teixeira, who had their best result of the season at the latest round, where they finished second. Pedro Meireles and Ricardo Faria crew a third i20 N Rally2 on the event.
Turkish teenager takes to national championship stages with i20 N Rally2 for the first time
18-year-old Kerem Kazaz makes his first start with an i20 N Rally2 in his native Turkey at the national championship round at the ESOK Rally. Kazaz – a regular on World and European Rally Championship events with Rally3 machinery – made his debut in the car with French co-driver Corentin Silvestre at a rally in Estonia in August. Now the pair will continue their push for the Turkish national title. Kazaz became the youngest-ever overall winner in the national championship when he took victory at the opening round of the season. He currently sits third in the standings, with the aim to use the pace and reliability of the i20 N Rally2 to take further success and a remarkable title victory to complete an excellent 2024.
Finnish crew joins regulars for next Italian Rally Championship outing
Finnish i20 N Rally2 crew Benjamin Korhola and Anssi Viinikka join the regulars of the Italian Rally Championship for the weekend at the Rally 1000 Miglia. Korhola, a front-runner in the Finnish Rally Championship, will make just his second tarmac event start of the year at the event which begins in Brescia, just like the famed historic Mille Miglia race from which the rally takes its name. While gaining experience on tarmac, Korhola and Viinikka will not be eligible for points in the Italian championship. The top Hyundai Motorsport customer competing for national honours will be the Hyundai Rally Team Italia-supported crew of Andrea Nucita and Rudy Pollet, who have a best finish of fourth in the series this year, and Liberato Sulpizio and Alessio Angeli, sharing a similarly backed i20 N Rally2.
