The TCR UK field returns to action, and to Donington Park, for the second time in two weeks but swaps for the venue’s national circuit for the longer Grand Prix layout for two races this weekend.
Several of the i30 N TCR drivers contesting the series made strong starts to the season over the opening weekend, led by 2024 title contender Callum Newsham who claimed victory in Race 3 after a Race 2 podium and Finn Leslie, who capped a superb debut weekend in TCR racing with a second in Race 3 behind Newsham to claim second place in the standings after the first action of the year.
This weekend offers an almost immediate chance to build on the results gained and lessons learned from a fortnight ago, especially with most the track layout the same and only the final section changing between the two circuit layouts. Of course, for those for who the opening weekend went less well a Donington Park return is an opportunity for redemption. This will, no doubt, be the aim of Alistair Camp, who suffered the unfortunate fate of retiring from all three races last month.
For Rod McGovern and Harry Bloor, the weekend is another opportunity to gain experience with their new charges and once more push towards the podium positions.
TCR Panama resumes with Sunset Race weekend
Elantra N TCR customers dominated the first-ever weekend of TCR Panama in February. Emilio Valverde and the CHM Motorsport team won both races at Autodromo Panama, which hosts each round of the championship.
As he, and his rivals, gear up for a second weekend of racing, he will aim to add to his winning run. However, he now becomes the first driver in the championship to have to contend with the additional 40kg of ballast awarded to the best scoring driver from the previous weekend under the TCR regulations’ Compensation Weight rules, with his fellow Elantra N TCR Luís Ramízez carrying an extra 30kg.
This weekend’s racing – billed as one of the highlights of the series’ inaugural year – includes a ‘Sunset Race’, taking the drivers into dusk to finish the day’s action.
