Road Atlanta weekend offers Bryan Herta Autosport team final chance to snatch titles

Road Atlanta hosts the traditional final round for the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge season, with two hours of racing to close out the year. While Hyundai hold an insurmountable lead in the manufacturers’ standings of the series’ TCR class, Elantra N TCR customers lie second in both the drivers’ and teams’ standings. Unfortunately, after winning all three titles for the previous four season, it appears the Hyundai Motor America-backed Bryan Herta Autosport squad’s run of dominance will come to an end. Defending drivers’ champions Harry Gottsacker and Robert Wickens are again the best placed of the Elantra N TCR crews in the standings, but they start the weekend 150 points in arrears – needing their title rivals to have a disastrous weekend to stand any chance of retaining the title. Gottsacker and Wickens’ #33 entry is one of five Elantra N TCR on the entry list, with Bryan Herta Autosport responsible for four, and Victor Gonzalez Racing Team a single entry – the #99.

i30 N TCR part of three-way title decider for TCR UK

Callum Newsham is one of three drivers in title contention for the TCR UK title deciding weekend at the Silverstone International Circuit. Newsham has taken his JH Racing-run i30 N TCR to three victories already this season. If he is to overcome the 65-point gap to the current championship leader he will likely need at least one more win as part of a strong weekend. The International Circuit is one of two shorter layouts of the British Grand Prix venue. Based out of the pits for the full circuit, it features long straights and slow, technical sessions which promise overtaking opportunities, but also the constant risk of costly contact. When the series visited the other alternative layout earlier in the year, Newsham left with a pair of second placed finishes before a DNF – something he needs to avoid at all costs if he to pass the two drivers ahead of him in the standings over the final weekend.
