Janík Motorsport team-mates to settle TCR Eastern Europe title battle
The battle for the TCR Eastern Europe crown comes down to two Elantra N TCR drivers at the season finale at the high-speed Salzburgring. Defending champion Maťo Homola starts the weekend 34 points ahead of his Janík Motorsport team-mate, Adam Kout. The two drivers have shared the wins at the two most recent rounds – Homola winning Race 1 on both occasions, Kout both second races. Hyundai Motorsport customers have won every race of the season far. Homola have five wins, Kout two and i30 N TCR driver Attila Bucsi three. Bucsi, who missed the previous round at Brno, is back on the entry list for the weekend in Austria though he has already all but secured the Junior title in the series and sits comfortably in third in the main drivers’ standings. Janík Motorsport have already secured a third consecutive teams’ crown in the series.
Elantra N TCR teams aim to close on points’ leader at Indianapolis
The Elantra N TCR customers of the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge head to one of the world’s most famous race circuits for this weekend’s two-hour race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The famous Brickyard hosts the penultimate round of the season with the leading Bryan Herta Autosport teams chasing down the points’ leader. Defending champions Harry Gottsacker and Robert Wickens made up ground with a podium finish in the previous round but need another strong finish this week to further close the gap and keep their chances of taking a second consecutive title from the season finale alive. Hyundai currently leads the manufacturers’ points after a succession of podium finishes. Five Elantra N TCR teams are entered for the event, with four cars from the Hyundai Motor America-backed Bryan Herta Autosport squad alongside the #99 team from Victor Gonzalez Racing Team who scored their first podium with the Elantra N TCR at the most recent round.
Vallelunga’s fast sweeps and tight hairpins await TCR Italy field
For its penultimate round of the season, TCR Italy takes to the Vallelunga circuit near Rome with the Elantra N TCR drivers pushing for more strong results during what has been a frustrating season. Four Hyundai Motorsport customers have stood on the podium this year, with three having scored race wins, but issues elsewhere have left them locked out of the championship battle. Michele Imberti – in fifth – is the best of the group in the overall standings, ahead of Alex Ley, who returned to the podium for the first time since the opening race when he finished second at Imola earlier this month. The Vallelunga track combines some fearsome high-speed corners – the sweeping Curvone is a stand-out – with some of the tightest hairpins visited by any TCR series, providing a tough challenge for the grid.
Callum Newsham keeps up TCR UK title pursuit at super-fast Thruxton
TCR UK visits Thruxton, one of the fastest tracks in the UK, with JH Racing driver Callum Newsham sitting second in the championship. The circuit is famously punishing on cars and tyres thanks to a series of near-flat out corners that demand good balance from the chassis and bravery from the driver. Newsham is enjoying a career breakout season with the i30 N TCR, though a retirement after lap one contact at the final race at Silverstone ended a run of five consecutive podium finishes. Darron Lewis, in a second car prepared by JH Racing also continues his season, his first full year with the i30 N TCR.
