Kout claims Bronze from FIA Motorsport Games weekend
Adam Kout made the most of his opportunities in two mature drives in the Touring Car races of the FIA Motorsport Games (October 23-27), held at the Valencia circuit in Spain.
Kout, representing Czechia in an Elantra N TCR prepared by the Janík Motorsport team qualified seventh in a field that featured front runners from TCR series around the world – including the FIA TCR World Tour and TCR Europe. However, he was quickly able to make his way up the order as those ahead were delayed after contact or handed penalties. Avoiding the troubles around him he finished Saturday’s Qualifying Race third.
In the opening corners to the Main Race – where the event’s medal were decided – he continued his progress, taking second place through turn to only to be punted sideways into the gravel by a rival. Though he was able to continue his car was damaged and he had fallen to eighth. However, he started to clamber back though the order, eventually taking fourth with six minutes of the race remaining, only to be hit again in the same corner, though by a different driver and pushed back to sixth.
In this position he crossed the line, but when the drivers who had been the aggressors in both the opening lap and late race incidents were given penalties, and the on-track winner was disqualified for a serious technical infraction Kout found himself returned to the podium as a reward for his patience.
South Korean driver completes Italian season with a podium
Elantra N TCR driver Junesung Park finished the TCR Italy season with a fine second place in Race 2 of the finale weekend at Monza (October 26-28).
The Solite Indigo Racing driver started the race on the front row but was already third before the pack turned into the circuit’s first chicane on a slippery track. Though he made it through the corner without an issue he had to survive being turned nearly completely sideways in a moment of chaos that ended the race of his fellow Elantra N TCR customers Alex Ley and Damiano Reduzzi.
Following a Safety Car period Park settled into third position before making a pass on Michele Imberti – another in an Elantra N TCR – at the second Lesmo corner to take second place. For much of the remaining race, Park’s drive was a defensive one positioning his car perfectly in each heavy braking zones to protect his place. He task was eased a little by a second Safety Car period before the race restarted with five minutes remaining. However, an accident behind Park caused a red flag, bring the race – and the season – to an early end with Park in second.
The result help him finish fifth in the final championship standings, the best placed of the Elantra N TCR drivers in the series.
In Race 1, Reduzzi converted his best qualifying of the season – second – into a fifth place with Ley, Park and Imberti all also finishing the second half of the top ten. Imberti would finish his season with fifth in Race 2.
