South Korean driver secures first TCR Europe podium
Junesung Park scored his first TCR Europe podium at Spa-Francorchamps (May 16-17) in only his second weekend in the championship after a stunning drive in Race 1 at the Belgian venue to lead home the six Elantra N TCR customers in the race. The South Korean driver put on a determined defence to hold a large pack behind his Solite Indigo Racing entry but was still alert enough to take advantage of overtaking opportunities – taking third at La Source after a restart and snatching second with an intelligent move out of the final corner of the race. He was on the pace again in Race 2, finishing fourth, just ahead of team-mate Junui Park, who finished ninth in Race 1.
Newsham’s triple podium shows i30 N TCR’s pace at Silverstone
A lights-to-flag victory in Race 3 completed an excellent TCR UK weekend for Callum Newsham at Silverstone (May 17-18). The JH Racing driver made the better getaway of the front row starters, to go from second to lead into turn one. He never surrendered the lead, despite having to defend from those behind in the first half of the race before beginning to build a gap. The victory followed two second places earlier in the weekend – the first having closely pursued the leader for the entire race and the second after making quick progress from ninth on the partly reversed grid.
