Double podium for the Bryan Herta Autosport Elantra N TCR squad
Gottsacker and Wickens lead double podium for Bryan Herta Autosport
Bryan Herta Autosport Elantra N TCR claimed another double podium in the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge in the series’ two-hour encounter at Watkins Glen (June 20-23). The pairing of Harry Gottsacker and Robert Wickens finished second. Wickens had been leading for a large part of a second half of the race but was overtaken and had to settle for second – their best finish of the season to date. Gottsacker had led during his stint before pitting during the last of three Safety Car periods in the first half of the race.
Strategy proved to be a vital part of the race, with fuel mileage becoming decisive in the closing laps. As other teams came up short the #76 entry – driven by Denis Dupont in the second stint after Preston Brown started the car – snatched the final podium spot. Mark Wilkins and Mason Filippi’s #98 finished fourth – the last car to finish on the lead lap in class – ahead of Taylor Hagler and Bryson Morris’ #77.
Hyundai Motorsport Customer Racing Manager Benoit Nogier said:
“The Bryan Herta Autosport team continue to be incredibly consistent in the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge after claiming another double podium in the face of some extraordinarily strong opposition. Despite this, all their Elantra N TCR teams on track continue to put their cars in strong positions, often leading of large periods of the race, as well as claiming strong final results.”
