Hungry for success

ETCR heads to the Hungaroring

ETCR heads to the Hungaroring

We travel to Race HU, the second round of the 2022 FIA ETCR – eTouring Car World Cup season, on a mission to challenge for the King of the Weekend crown and move up the manufacturers’ standings.

“We head to Race HU feeling positive,” said Stefan, our Director of Marketing and PR. “We made progress in every session at Race FR and we want to continue that momentum next week.”

Pushing for podiums
In the previous round, Race FR, we showed good pace in our Veloster N ETCR, with Mikel claiming fourth overall in the standings after his second place in the Super Final. The Spaniard is aiming to push for more in Hungary.

“I’m certain we can fight for the King of the Weekend in Race HU,” said Mikel. “I know what it takes to win at the Hungaroring, having done so in PURE ETCR last year.”

Jean-Karl claimed pole position last time out at the Circuit de Pau-Ville, while Norbert secured his first-ever FIA ETCR victory in his Semi Final. Both will be targeting the top spot at the Hungaroring, a circuit they know well.

“I’m very familiar with the Hungaroring and have been successful here in the past,” commented Jean-Karl. “Hopefully we can be fighting at the front next weekend.”

“Racing in Hungary is always special for me, it’s my home event and I enjoyed wonderful moments at this venue in the past,” added local hero Norbert. “The main target is to build the momentum we gathered in Pau.”

Kevin displayed improved confidence and speed in every session in France, finishing his final race in fourth. The Italian is looking to show even greater progress at Race HU.

“I hope to continue my learning curve with the Veloster N ETCR after the first race in Pau,” said Kevin. “On a more conventional track, it should be easier to overtake and challenge for victories.”

Past promise
Following the postponement of Race TR, the Hungaroring will be the first permanent circuit on the 2022 FIA ETCR calendar. The 4.381km track previously hosted the penultimate PURE ETCR round in 2021, in which our Veloster N ETCR demonstrated great pace and claimed victories in the Battle Rounds.

The Race HU begins with the Draw and two Free Practice sessions on Friday. Saturday will see the Pools tackle Qualifying and the Quarter Final, with the Pool Fast Semi Final held in the evening. The Pool Furious Semi Final takes place on Sunday morning, followed by both Super to bring the event to a close. With points awarded in all four sessions, there is plentiful opportunities for our drivers to make gains in the title standings.

“We hope our valuable learnings from the first round of the season, coupled with our PURE ETCR experience at the Hungaroring last year, will help us to secure important points for the title fight,” said Stefan.
