Junior TCR talents confirmed

Four drivers announced for Junior Driver program

Four drivers announced for Junior Driver program

We have confirmed the four TCR drivers that will make up the 2020 Customer Racing Junior Driver program following the successful first year of the initiative.

All four circuit racing drivers will compete in our i30 N TCR in championships around the world. They will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of Luca Engstler, who graduates into a full-time seat on the WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup grid.

“With the quality of those that have been selected for this season, I believe that all of them have the capability to race at the highest level,” said Customer Racing Operations Leader Andrew.

Rising stars
Swedish siblings Andreas and Jessica Bäckman are aiming to build on a strong first season in TCR Europe with Target Competition. Jessica enjoyed a maiden podium with the i30 N TCR in 2019, while Andreas took a race win and two pole positions.

They will be joined by Daniel Nagy, who is also continuing with the initiative. The Hungarian driver will compete with BRC Racing Team in TCR Europe when the real-world series begins.

Will Brown completes the line-up and will represent the Customer Racing Junior Driver program in Australia. After a stunning debut in the inaugural TCR Australia season, in which he dominated by taking seven wins and finishing first overall, he will continue with the HMO Customer Racing team to defend his title.

Preparing for success
As part of the program, the drivers will be able to rely upon the support of our Customer Racing department’s engineers, and receive guidance on how to build the strong profile needed for a motorsports career.

Andrew concluded: “With the support of the Customer Racing department’s engineers and the mentoring of the current crop of WTCR drivers, I am confident that we can add to the program’s success story.”
