Junesung Park goes from lights to flag at Mugello
Junesung Park became the third Elantra N TCR driver to score his first TCR Italy this season. The South Korean driver led from lights to flag in Race 2 of the series’ weekend at Mugello (13-14 July). From pole position on the reverse grid, he held the pack at bay not only from the initial rolling start but through two restarts after Safety Car periods. The first of these came after a first lap accident that involved – among others – Elantra N TCR drivers Damiano Reduzzi, Alex Ley and Gabriele Covini, all of whom retired without completing a lap.
Park’s superb display was completed by a fastest lap. He was joined in the top ten by fellow Elantra N TCR man Michele Imberti, who inherited seventh when Target Competition driver Hwarang Kim was penalised following the race.
Impressively, Kim had claimed pole position in only his third weekend with the team but dropped back at the initial start. Still, he held on to finish fourth, leading the Elantra N TCR drivers in the race one place ahead of Junesung Park. Covini completed the top ten finishers.
