Korhola joins WRC2 regulars for Finnish weekend
Finnish Rally Championship regular Benjamin Korhola will make his WRC2 debut when he joins the category regulars – and some interesting additions – for his home event on the calendar. The 21-year-old has scored some great results in his first full season with the i20 N Rally2 – scoring three podium finishes in the domestic championship. Alongside co-driver Sebastian Virtanen he will take on the famously fast gravel stages of the Jyväskylä-based event. On the entry list he joins compatriots, and fellow i20 N Rally2 drivers, Emil Lindholm and Teemu Suninen, who both continue their campaigns at the rally with their respective co-drivers – Reeta Hämäläinen and Mikko Markkula. Lindholm and Hämäläinen are former class winners of their home event, though they are still searching for a first WRC2 podium of the 2024 season.
Meeke aims to return to top step of the podium on island event
Team Hyundai Portugal pairing Kris Meeke and Stuart Loudon will be aiming to return to winning ways at the Rali Vinho da Madeira – the sixth round of the Portuguese Rally Championship. Though Meeke still holds a healthy lead at the top of the points standings a technical problem at the previous round ended a perfect start to the season of four wins from four rounds. The tarmac stages on the island of Madeira offer the chance to add to their advantage and respond to the first disappointment of the campaign. Their team-mates Ricardo Teodósio and José Teixeira scored a podium in the national championship at the event a year ago. A repeat performance this week would be a second trip to the rostrum for the pair this year, having stood on the podium at Teodósio’s home event on the Algarve. Pedro Meireles and Ricardo Faria share a third i20 N Rally2 on the entry list for Meireles’ fourth start of the season.
