i30 N TCR driver leads TCR UK points after maiden race victory
Callum Newsham heads the TCR UK points after the 2024 championship’s opening weekend on the Brands Hatch Indy Circuit. The JH Racing driver clinched pole position but had to wait until the third and final race of the weekend to score his first-ever win in TCR UK. The lights-to-flag victory completed an excellent weekend for the i30 N TCR man after he hand finished fourth and second in the two earlier races.
Newsham’s new team-mate, Darron Lewis, finished the weekend with a best finish of sixth in his first competitive outing with the i30 N TCR.
Defending champion scores first win of TCR Australia season
HMO Customer Racing’s Josh Buchan scored his first win of the TCR Australia season in the opening race of the weekend at Phillip Island (April 12-14). The i30 N TCR driver moved from third on the grid to take the lead on the opening lap. Out front, he managed his pace throughout the rest of the race, though he was still able to set a new lap record around the renowned Grand Prix circuit as the fastest of six drivers who lapped below the previous marker.
Contact with another driver on the opening lap forced Buchan into Race 2 retirement, but the damage was repaired, allowing him to take his place on the grid for the final contest. He rewarded his mechanics’ efforts by taking third place to close the gap on the championship leader.
In the squad’s second car Tom Oliphant recorded a trio of top ten finishes despite carrying maximum compensation weight after winning the previous round of the season.
Hyundai Motorsport Customer Racing Manager Benoit Nogier said: “Our customers have made good starts to the latest championships to begin their 2024 season. In TCR UK, Callum Newsham made a superb start to his campaign with pole and a career-first win to lead the championship.
