Janík Motorsport drivers sweep Brno weekend

Squad clinch Teams’ title with a round to spare

Squad clinch Teams’ title with a round to spare

Janik Motorsport drivers Maťo Homola and Adam Kout shared the wins from the TCR Eastern Europe weekend at the Brno circuit (September 6-8) as the team secured a third consecutive year.

The weekend at the Czech venue brought together the grids for TCR Eastern Europe and TCR Europe – though drivers for one were not eligible for points in the other. In qualifying, Homola’s pole position among the Eastern Europe competitors placed him fourth on the combined grid. A good start put him past the third of the European series runners before turn one. He led the position for the entire race, unchallenged to score his fifth win of the TCR Eastern European season.

Kout, meanwhile, was part of the battle in the middle of a top ten that included drivers from both series on his way to complete the Eastern Europe podium in Race 1. In Race 2 on Sunday Kout was at the front of the TCR Eastern Europe pack – though only after going wheel-to-wheel with Homola as part of a four-abreast battle on the opening lap. Holding the lead of the series’ runners for the entire race he crossed the line seventh in the combined field, later being elevated to fifth by penalties for other drivers. Homola lost on in the opening lap battle, but still claimed the points for third in TCR Eastern Europe.

Jiří Zbožínek, in the third Janík Motorsport car, finished the two races fifth and eighth respectively. The weekend finished with a celebration for the Czech squad, who clinch the team’s title with a round to spare.

Auto Klub Dubrovnik driver Žarko Knego finished sixth of the TCR Eastern Europe drivers in Race 1, before being involved in contact that resulted in a first lap safety car in the second event.
