BRC Racing Team takes the lead in the teams’ standings
Our Elantra N TCR customers were once again on the top step of the podium in the fourth round of the WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup season, Race of Spain.
BRC Hyundai N Squadra Corse driver Mikel claimed his third win of the season in Race 2 at MotorLand Aragón, his home race. After an early safety car, he battled hard to challenge the cars ahead once racing resumed to move himself up the field and to victory.
“It’s been amazing to finish the weekend with a victory at my home race”, says Mikel. “I was very happy that after a chaotic first lap I could bring the car back in one piece and in first position. The team are working hard, and the car feels good.”
His team-mate Norbert secured himself a place on the front row for Race 2 but was unable to capitalise on his advantageous starting position after contact bought his race to a premature end. The Hungarian was able to return to the pits where the car was retired due to damage.
“Race of Spain was bittersweet for me,” he explains. “Race 2 was carnage at the start, and I was unlucky. I was leading for a short while, but unfortunately, I had to retire because of damage. Sometimes racing is like this.”
Charging through the field
Both drivers advanced up the order in the opening laps of Race 1, providing thrilling on-track battles and putting those ahead of them under pressure.
From eighth on the grid, Mikel progressed to finish in a fine fourth place, and was later elevated to third after a post-race penalty for a competitor, while Norbert climbed from ninth to sixth.
As a result of their efforts in Aragón, BRC Hyundai N Squadra Corse has moved into the lead of the teams’ standings with Mikel also topping the drivers’ standings, while Norbert retains eleventh position.
Our customers have a short break until the next event; the second of back-to-back rounds, WTCR Race of Portugal, takes place July 2-3.
