Podium joy in Hungary

1-2 finish in Race 3

1-2 finish in Race 3

Our customer team, BRC Racing Team, celebrated a 1-2 finish and a double podium at the second race of the 2019 WTCR season and all four drivers scored important points at the Race of Hungary.

The team also secured an impressive pole position with the i30 N TCR in wet and mild weather conditions at the Hungaroring.

Second round, second win

After a difficult Saturday, BRC Hyundai N Squadra Corse driver Gabriele Tarquini returned to form on Sunday with a victory in the third race. He had started from fourth on the grid with team-mate Norbert Michelisz on pole.

“The pace of the car was fantastic, I very much enjoyed driving it,” he said.

Norbert snatched an impressive pole by a mere 0.008-seconds in Sunday’s qualifying session. His fans were delighted for him, and even more so after his second-place finish.

“I was hoping the positions would be in reverse order, but you can have worse than life than finishing on the podium in front of you home fans. Fantastic day for us,” he said.

Consistent performance

BRC Hyundai N LUKOIL Racing Team driver Augusto Farfus was in the top-ten in all but one session during the weekend.

He said, “A positive second round for me. Saturday was tough for us, but we were in the top ten in all three races. A big step since Marrakech.”

Team-mate Nicky Catsburg missed out on the top ten in Sunday’s qualifying and started both races in 13th place, but used the mixed conditions to his advantages to climb into the points.

“I’m pretty happy with the result. The races were a lot of fun and we scored some good points,” he said.

Concluding the weekend in Hungary, Team Principal of BRC Racing Team Gabriele Rizzo said: “We are delighted with our result today in Hungary! A pole position for Norbert in front of his home crowd is something very special. The conditions added unpredictability into the proceedings, so we were delighted with our 1-2 on the podium. Augusto and Nicky did well to bring the car home in the points, bringing our tally of top ten finishes this weekend to eight.”
